Hope for the Nations

Psalm 67:1-7 (NASB) 2020 edition

1 God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us— Selah

2 That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations.

3 May the peoples praise You, God;
May all the peoples praise You.

4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will judge the peoples with fairness
And guide the nations on the earth. Selah

5 May the peoples praise You, God;
May all the peoples praise You.

6 The earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, blesses us.

7 God blesses us,
So that all the ends of the earth may fear Him.

REFLECTION

Advent is a season of hope, and Psalm 67 reminds us that the hope of salvation is not confined to one people or nation but is extended to the entire world. This Psalm is a prayer for God’s blessing and presence, not for the sake of Israel alone but so that all nations might know His ways and experience His salvation.

God’s heart has always been for the nations. From His covenant with Abraham, where He promised that all peoples on earth would be blessed through his offspring (Genesis 12:3), to the fulfillment of that promise in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, the message is clear: God's grace and redemption knows no borders.

As we celebrate the Messiah, we remember that Jesus’ birth was the beginning of a global mission. The angel declared to the shepherds that the good news of great joy was for “all the people” (Luke 2:10). The hope that began in Bethlehem now reaches every corner of the earth, offering salvation to all who call on His name.

Jesus also calls us to respond. God’s grace invited us to participate in His mission by proclaiming His gospel and sharing His blessings. Our lives should reflect His teaching so that others might be drawn to Him.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for the hope and salvation You have made available to all nations through Jesus Christ. As we reflect on Your blessings in this season, help us to be a light to those around us. May Your name be glorified among all peoples, and may we faithfully proclaim Your love and mercy. Amen.
