New Seeds of Hope in Peru

Last month, the landscapes of Peru welcomed Juan Tamayo, a missionary companion from NAMS. His journey took him to Tarapoto, Pongo, and the community of San Miguel, where he visited communities in the jungle and the Chawi people. During his time there, he visited a small church and witnessed the conversion and baptism of a family, and supported brothers and sisters facing hardship.

He also laid the groundwork to start a church planting initiative to this region in Peru. There is already conversations of a medical mission next summer, using the church as a base for surrounding communities.

His missionary trip not only brought hope and the gospel to the communities he visited, but also established the foundation for a potentially fruitful future for NAMS in Northern Peru.

This week, Peru welcomes another NAMS visitor, Rev. Andrés Casanueva, Prior of the Temuco Mission Base. He will spend a few days in Lima and other parts of Peru, where he has long collaborated in ministry partners through his role in other ministries.

All of this indicates that God is opening a path for a more permanent NAMS presence in Peru. There is already a well-developed plan to organize a NAMS outpost in the city of Arequipa after the Servant General’s visit in February.

These visits represent a significant step forward, preparing the way for the work and mission of NAMS throughout Peru.

Please pray for the North of Peru where communities face persecution from drug traffickers and coca plantations. Those who convert to the gospel and leave the coca business are persecuted. Let us pray that they remain steadfast in their faith.
